To ease the pain, Darcy flies to Belize over the holidays fully intending to wallow in self-pity and distance herself from her ex. Her pity party is short-lived however, after observing a very handsome, very intriguing man on the beach. Darcy becomes the focus of the smokin' hot, wealthy and somewhat mysterious 'E.J.'Soon she finds herself entangled with an alpha like no other… Her world is rocked by a series of events that will forever change the course of her life, showing her what love is all about; and forcing her to come to terms with hidden sexual pleasures only one man could fulfill…
My Review
5 sizzling, sexy stars!
Two words: LOVED.IT.
Andrea Smith certainly outdid herself with this one. Night Moves is fast-paced, fun and one hell of a sexy read.
The STORY
Darcy just caught her boyfriend banging a co-worker. Humiliated and hurt, she flew to Belize to lick her wounds. There, she met E.J., a hot and gorgeous Brit. There was instant attraction and chemistry between the two of them. The problem was E.J. was clearly with somebody else at that time. After some sizzling encounters, they parted ways. They met again months later in the States where Darcy found out that E.J. was actually Easton Matthews.
Easton was intrigued by Darcy. She was beautiful with a healthy dose of attitude and more than that, she reminded him of what he once had. When they saw each other again, Easton wasted no time in pursuing Darcy. He went to great lengths to pursue her while keeping an emotional distance. Darcy, in the meantime, was enamored by Easton and in spite of herself, she found herself falling for him.
The CHARACTERS
Darcy is 22 and by her own admission spoiled rotten by her parents. During the first part of the book, we see her as immature and spoiled. But what's great about her character is that you really see her go from this immature girl into a self-assured and confident woman. I just love her. Andrea has this knack of creating flawed heroines that you can root for. And boy, did I root for Darcy throughout this book. She held her own against Easton. I loved that she knows what she wants and she actually learned from her mistakes.
“You're being an ass," I snapped, hoping to get his ire up, along with anything else on him that cared to rise to the occasion.
"I am an ass," he spat, "You should've figured that out a long time ago. I don't want to be an ass - not with you at any rate. You didn't deserve the things I did to you last night.”
Easton was more difficult for me to like in the beginning. He is the very definition of a manwhore. You know those books where the hero was a self-confessed manwhore and yet you never see them "manwhoring" at all? Well, Easton is different. What you read about is what you get. I guess that's part of his appeal. He made no apologies for it. But when he started to feel something for Darcy, you see it and you feel that connection and it was just wonderful.
“This was a man who could shatter me at will. I mean, look what he'd done with my resolve to be professional. Where'd that go? He'd splintered it the moment he started telling me those things at the restaurant. I could already feel the slow fractures begin to confetti my thoughts.”
Their RELATIONSHIP
“I’ve a tendency to try and lead when slow-dancing,” I warned him. His lips twitched, and amusement glimmered darkly in his eyes.
“You have no worries there; I don’t intend to allow that,” he responded softly. “You’ll learn to follow, I promise.”
Their attraction from the very beginning was clear. Their chemistry was off the charts. But when feelings started to come into play, angst followed. Yes, Easton and Darcy's story had a lot of angst. But in a good way. I loved how their relationship went from something purely physical into something infinitely more. Of course, Easton fought it every step of the way and his secrets more than contributed to the angst in the story, but in the end, love do conquer all.
Final THOUGHTS
This book clocks at an impressive 469 pages. I thought it was going to take me at least two days or more to finish. But surprise, surprise! I devoured this book in one sitting. It was that engrossing. There was never a dull moment if I may say so. From page one up until the end, I was engaged with the story and got thoroughly entertained by Andrea's storytelling.
Wonderful, wonderful storytelling, Ms. Smith. Bravo! I'll definitely be recommending this one!
