Professional hockey player Rob D'Amico is confused when he's chosen to take part in a reading program for inner-city students. While athletes are role models, he tends toward the gregarious and playful side, rather than a studious bent.

Despite the lack of funding plaguing her inner-city district, every day kindergarten teacher Alaina Rossa ensures her students learn something to prepare them for life. At first she's unsure how a hockey player will help her achieve that goal.

When Rob visits Alaina's class for the first time, they welcome him with open arms, despite the lack of even the basic supplies for their education. He takes it upon himself to get the students what they need, sweeping Alaina up in the excitement.

As time goes by and she learns more about Rob, Alaina finds her heart opening to him. Is it possible her soul mate could be found in a world so different from her own? And for Rob, the last person he thought he'd find forever love with was an elementary school teacher wearing clothes permanently stained with finger paint. But when you're playing for keeps, sometimes you have to get a little dirty.

{Holiday Party Blog Tour and Giveaway} The Novice by Harlem Dae

The Novice by Harlem Dae

Description:

London – one meeting, one month of lessons and a landslide of new desires.

My journey to hell started with a decaf coffee. Nothing more than a grey mug full of dull-brown liquid devoid of its most useful ingredient.

One sip, one smile, one touch of her hand and it was soon clear my life wasn’t destined to stay dull. Oh, no, suddenly I had a month of bedroom education planned by a sultry vixen who intended to broaden my horizons beyond my usual peach-pink palette.

She wanted to take me to deep purples and navy blues and the pitch blackness that was pure sin. And on the other side of that blackness was a place that might look like Hell, with debauchery and wantonness, people playing devil’s advocate, luring innocents into the hotter, steamier corners of the world.

Her world.

Oh, yes, she promised each night to take me there and paint me an orange-and-red picture that would come alive, flickering like flames, enticing me, holding me spellbound and eager to learn more. To touch, explore, drown in coming.

And drown I would. I was no match for her tricks and taunts. My only chance of survival was to show her that I wasn't vanilla. I had a rainbow of mastery up my sleeve, too, and if she just opened her eyes, she might be dazzled enough to stay—stay and take ‘my’ lessons. If she didn’t kill me first, that was, with pleasure.

Please note The Novice is book #1 in the Sexy as Hell Trilogy which is best read in order. At the end of The Novice you will find the first 3 chapters of the next book, The Player, available for your enjoyment.

Excerpt:

I sighed then sipped my coffee, wondering what on earth was the matter with me. Perhaps this game with Victor was dragging me down. If that was the case, I couldn’t wait for it to be over. I stared into space, working out what to show him next. There were the Swedes—mustn’t forget those—but maybe they’d be better off left for the finale. God, that would give him a last visual to remember his time with me by. I could only hope he learned from what I was teaching him and didn’t file it in the back of his mind. What a waste if he didn’t use it with future women, either as a sub or having a go at domination himself. When he’d got going last night he’d given off an unstoppable energy. It was muted assertiveness yes, but I was pretty sure it was there.
Bile rose into my throat.
Was I coming down with something? That would be all I’d need, being sick smack bang in the middle of a bet. I breathed deeply, waiting for a slash of nausea to strike, but nothing came. Maybe the milk in the coffee wasn’t as fresh as it could be. I shrugged, once again studying the men in the coffee shop. One of them, nice-looking and hair much like Victor’s, greying a bit at the temples but not quite as long at the back as his, was typing steadfastly on his laptop. I wondered what he did for a living that meant he spent his coffee break working. Or perhaps he wasn’t working at all. He might well be firing off saucy emails to a woman who read them while frigging her clit. Would Victor be up for something like that?
I wasn’t about to wait to find out. I reached into my bag and pulled out my phone. Having stored his email address in my mind, I tapped the icon for my mail app and typed it in, taking a moment to think on what to put. In the subject line I typed CAN YOU WALK PROPERLY TODAY? then proceeded with the main entry.

Dear Mr Doesn’t-Know-It-All-But-Knows-A-Bit-More-Than-Before,
I hope this email finds you in good spirits. How is your arse? Sore? I imagine it is. Mine isn’t, just in case you were wondering. I have a blissful kind of ache going on down there, and every time I move I think of you with your cock inside me. I have to admit, I’m wondering how that cock would feel in my cunt again, but we have plenty of time for me to find out, don’t we?
Now, about tonight. I doubt your back hole is up for any more invasions just yet, so I thought us watching a performance might be the best way to go. There’s an act you haven’t seen yet—The Harlequin; you’ll see why when you get there—and it will show you a thing or two.
8 o’clock sharp at Eden Street. If you don’t turn up this time…well, it’d be pointless if you didn’t. You know damn well I’ll only come and find you and do what I have in mind anyway. And you’ll enjoy it, I promise.
By the way, I’m enjoying a lovely coffee. Isn’t it about time you took a break?
Mistress Z

I smiled as I hit SEND, imagining his mail alarm tinkling, him opening his email browser thinking it was a client or one of his staff, only to find little old me had barged into his inbox. I wanted to barge into his inbox for real, but like I’d said to him, I didn’t think his arse could take another invasion so soon.
I sipped and gazed around while waiting for his response. If he didn’t send one immediately, then that was all right. He might be busy drawing or in a meeting or something. I hoped he wasn’t—hoped he was at his desk, bored and waiting for a decent distraction. Did he ever get bored at work, what with all those important projects to be getting on with?
My phone gave a solitary blip, and I looked down to see a number one in the corner of my mail icon. Excited, and wanting to laugh so loud it made people stare, I opened my mail.

Dear Mistress Z,
You are so naughty, emailing me like this. What did I tell you last night? I’m a busy man—too busy to be having filthy email conversations with you. Too busy to take a bloody break.
Yes, I’ll be at Eden Street at 8, not because you ordered me there but because I want to see The Harlequin. I enjoy a good show—perhaps you’d like me to take you to one of my kind some day? And yes, my arse is sore, thank you very much.
Mr Won’t-Take-Any-More-Orders-For-The-Rest-Of-The-Day

Ha! So he wasn’t so busy that he didn’t have time to respond. And as for not taking any more orders…he’d be taking them tonight.

Dear Mr I’m-Too-Busy-For-My-Mistress-Who-Likes-To-Put-Things-Up-My-Arse,
Thank you so much for your prompt response, despite being a very busy man. I appreciate you finding the time to squeeze me into your hectic schedule. I should be flattered. However, there’s always time for a bit of slap and tickle, and I aim to show you that all work and no play might make Victor a very dull man. And it had made you dull, hadn’t it? Admit it. When was the last time you had fun before you met me? Lighten up a little.
If you have a client sitting opposite your desk—and I can’t imagine you being so rude as to write filth to me if you did; again, not enough balls—or you have someone in your office, or perhaps you’re in someone else’s office and answering mail on your phone, just imagine what they’d think if they knew what we were talking about. Don’t you think it makes for an interesting deviance from your usual boring day? What a secret to have, sending raunchy messages to a woman when no one else knows.
What a secret to have when a woman emails you saying she’d like nothing more than to pay you a visit, yank down your trousers, and stuff your very hard cock into her mouth.
And you are hard, aren’t you?
Mistress Z

I sent the message and smiled. I was skating on thin ice here, risking annoying him or getting him so exasperated that the next response from him might not be so kind. Still, it was passing the time, and I could imagine him now, reading my message with a too-hard cock and no way to relieve it unless he visited the bathroom and took himself in hand. If he was in a meeting, all the better. A stiffy when sitting at a conference table could only make him want to see me tonight all the more.
My alert pinged.

Dear Mistress-Z-Who-Is-So-Infuriating-She-Makes-Me-Want-To-Scream,
I’m alone in my office, trying to work, and no, that doesn’t mean you can send me more of your dirty little messages. I really do need to get along here, and it’s all very well saying I should have secrets and should enjoy all this email sex malarkey—and I am in a way, I just wish you hadn’t chosen today to do it—but I have deadlines.
I don’t want to brush you off, believe me I don’t, but in answer to your question, yes, I’m too damn hard and it’s going to take a while for me to stop thinking about your pert little body and concentrate on work.
Now stop it. I mean it, just stop.
Mr Wants-To-Fuck-Around-With-You-But-Can’t

A grin a mile wide spread across my face. That was all I’d been after, him admitting he wanted me, giving me some assurance that he’d be at Eden Street tonight. Oh, I knew he’d said he’d be there, but after his no-show before, I’d had to make sure. And now I knew he wanted to fuck me, was sitting at his desk trying to deflate his cock, I was on cloud nine.
As I was just about to hug myself in victory, the man who looked a bit like Victor came up to my table. I stared at him, wondering what he could want, and slid my phone back into my bag.
“May I join you?” he asked.
“If you like,” I said, giving him my best I-can-hook-you-in-a-heartbeat smile. It felt wrong on my face, stretching it painfully, and I didn’t understand why. “So,” I said, following my usual patter, “what brings a hunk like you here?”
He grinned, blue eyes flashing, and placed his laptop on the table. “Having the chance to pick up a woman like you.”
Oh, someone else who thought he should be the one to run the show. I refrained from rolling my eyes and gave him another smile instead. Inwardly I sighed at having to go through this again, when all I wanted was to go home and think about tonight. I didn’t like other men encroaching on my time when I was teaching someone else.
So why were you here the other day then? The day Victor dropped in and caught you looking at other men?
I frowned. All right, so I was a hypocrite. I’d have to be honest with myself—this man wasn’t floating my boat, no matter how similar to Victor he was. No matter how attractive he was.
“I’m not here to be picked up,” I said. “I’m…well, I’m seeing someone.”
I stood and grabbed my bag, slinging the strap over my shoulder and heading to the door without looking back. I couldn’t believe I’d said that to him, had turned down the chance at a one-night stand come the end of the month. But it was all I’d been able to think of to get rid of him, to make my exit appear acceptable.
There was no other reason for saying what I had at all.

Excerpt
I’m slowly coming to and dawn hasn’t quite made its arrival yet.  Slowly everything from the night before comes back to me.  His arm is around me and he’s cradling me to his chest.  The warmth is almost insufferable.  I turn my head and he’s dead asleep.  I’m suddenly overcome with panic and decide I have to get out of here.  I creep out of the hold of his stellar body and get off the bed with ease.  I don’t want to risk waking him so I just grab my dress and shoes and make my way out of his room and down the stairs.  I find my purse on the kitchen island and head for the door.
“Cassidy!”
I nearly scream I’m so startled.  I rush to the door, open it and tip toe thru it for it to slam shut.  I run full force down the hall in nothing but his t-shirt with my arms full of my dress, shoes and purse.  I fumble with my key and finally get into my room.  My door closes and I swear I hear another, “Cassidy!” booming down the hall.
“Shit, shit, shit.”  Why am I running from him?
I throw my dress and shoes to the floor and sink down the door.  My knees are pulled to my chest and I’m resting my head on them when I feel my door shake like a gorilla is pounding it.  Bang, bang, bang!  My entire body vibrates against the force of him hitting the door.
“Cassidy, I know you’re in there.  Please open up.”
I push myself up the door and sigh.  I don’t know what to say to him.  “Go away!”
“Cassidy Charles open this door.  You can’t run from me forever.”
“Yes I can!”  This is ridiculous.  We’re acting like twelve year olds.
“Don’t make me call hotel security!  You let me in or I’ll let myself in.”
He wouldn’t dare, would he?  I decide to face him.  I open the door yelling at him, “You wouldn’t dare!”
He’s on me instantly.  I don’t even have a moment to take in his appearance.  His arms are around my back and he lifts me off the floor.  He sets me on the kitchen island.
“Why did you leave?  You scared me.”  He’s holding my face in his hands.  “Cassidy, look at me.  You can’t deny the attraction between us.  It was there all those months ago and it’s still here.”
There is so much emotion surrounding my thoughts and feelings for him.  I was attracted to him like a fish to water the first time I saw him.  And then it all went to shit in one night.  I look in his eyes and they’re full of concern.
“I’m scared of what I feel when I’m around you.  You scare the hell out of me.”  He looks stricken and drops his hands from my face.  “Not afraid of you, afraid of this,” I wave my hand between us.  “I’ve never been so drawn to someone.  And you left me that horrible night without a word.  I didn’t know what to think.  And then you were arrested and I couldn’t process it.”
He pulls me to him and starts talking into my hair.  “Baby, I didn’t leave you that night.  I never wanted to leave you.  I came back with our coffee and I saw you with a cop.  He was holding you and I got the wrong impression.”
“Wait, what?!  Calvin, you thought I was with…”  I’m crying and laughing at the same time.  “Calvin is my brother.”  I push away from him just enough to look at him.
He’s wiping my tears and says, “I know, I found out a few days later when they were questioning me.”  He must feel me stiffen.  “Cassidy, the charges were dropped.  You know that right?”  I nod my answer and he embraces me again.  “I promise you I had nothing to do with what happened that night.”
“I spent months trying to hate you so I could get over you, but I couldn’t and I never even had you.”
“Baby, you had me, you have me still.  Last night was just confirmation Cassidy.”

{Blog Tour} Infatuated by Elle Jordan

Blurb:
You can't hide from love...even when you want to.
When I took a job as a bartender at Hanson’s to help pay for my classes, the last thing I expected to find was Kale Wilder. He’s sexy, smart, and he makes me smile and laugh faster than anyone ever has. More importantly, he makes me believe in Mr. Right.
But Kale came to the wrong place at the wrong time, because someone else has his eyes on me. Someone who watches my every move.
Kale’s the only one I want, but the more I feel for him, the more I fear for my safety. Because the other guy is getting closer and doesn't want to share. He’s made it clear if he can’t have me, no one can.

“You brought me a date?”
“I did,” he said, rocking back on his heels.
I eyed him, then made a show of looking around. “Is he cute?”
The sputtering fish look that crossed his face made me feel better than it should have. He recovered quickly and nodded. “I think he’s rather handsome. Kind of rugged. Blue eyes, dark hair.”

Blurb

Mia Appleby finally has the life she always wanted. She's escaped her trailer trash childhood and built a nice life for herself with a marketing job and a cute, little condo. But no matter how much baggage she's ditched from her past, she still hasn't managed to shake her greatest weakness-men. Kevin McKnight can't get enough of his gorgeous neighbor, but after one amazing night, she's already showing him the door. Something tells him this is the way she handles most men. But Kevin is far from your average guy-and he's ready to prove it to Mia. When a blast from her past shakes up Mia's life in a major way, will she stick with her self-sufficient solo act . . . or take a chance leaning on Kevin's strong shoulders?

Excerpt

The kiss started out sweet, soft, but cranked to intense quickly, a hot, deep, wet connection that reminded her that their bodies knew each other, craved each other like air, and that being this close was inviting the inexplicable maelstrom that occurred every time she let him put his hands on her. She stopped thinking then, just let herself feel, starting with the pure sensation of his solid, hard-muscled body against hers and ending with the heat of his mouth as he deepened the kiss.

He put his hands on her now, in her hair, holding her face, then with a groan glided them down her body, touching everything he could as he trapped her between the hard desk and his tough body. He stroked her breasts, then slid his hands beneath her clothes to warm her flesh with his hands, and the simmer burst into flames.

When he finally pulled back, she was grateful to have the desk behind her holding her up, because he’d just decimated her, burst right through her every single defense with one simple kiss. Simple? Ha! She’d never been kissed, so thoroughly, so deliberately, so absolutely fully. He staggered back a step himself, looking surprised and just as shaky. “There,” he said in a voice low and ragged and satisfyingly hoarse. “You’re finally speechless. I like you that way.”

She stared at him, let out a sound of disgust, and pushed past him to the door. “You’re an ass.”
She slammed the door behind her, a gaffe that surely announced in a scream how he affected her, but she couldn’t seem to help it. No more, she told herself. No more. She was Mia Appleby, ad exec, queen of her world, and no one made her crazy. She kept her cool at all times.

{Release Day Blitz} Tease by Missy Johnson

Male escort.

That got your attention.

Some of the most powerful and well known women in the country pay to have sex with me, some of them married. Some are into more than just straight sex, which is why they call me. Bondage, power play, submission…nothing is off the table. I will do anything for the right price.

The stories I could tell you about a certain high profile congresswoman, or that innocent blonde actress. Trust me, she’s not so innocent.

Guys would kill for my job. I’m living the fucking dream. Meaningless sex, no relationship hang-ups and I’m rolling in the dough. Life is perfect, just the way it is.

Until I meet her.

She changes everything.

She makes me want more than I’ve ever wanted for myself and she believes in me. But she also thinks I sell insurance. I can’t stop what I do, but I can’t give her up.

Eventually, my two worlds are going to collide and when they do, shit will hit the fan.

Missy lives in a small town in Central Victoria with her husband, and her confused pets (a dog who think she's a cat, a cat who thinks he's a dog...you get the picture).

When she's not writing, she can usually be found looking for something to read.

{Review} Try by Ella Frank

Try (Temptation, #1)Try by Ella Frank
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

3.70 stars!

Try is Ella Frank's first foray into the m-m sub-genre. I've always loved Ella's trademark style of being able to write some serious steam, emotionally charged plots and character development. If you've read her Exquisite Series and Obsession, then you know what I'm talking about.

Now, onto the positives.

Try is one seriously steamy book. If it's steam that you want, then this book certainly delivers. This book is hot, hot, hot. This book will have you squirming in your seats. I kid you not.

Second, I like the dialogue and the banter between Logan and Tate. It's snarky, fun and yes, sexy. I especially love Cole and Logan banter. We didn't get to see that in Edible, where Logan's half-brother Cole is the main character, but we see quite a handful of that here. It made Logan more human and less of a jerk, although I have to say, I still can't figure him out yet.

So why not give this one a full 4 stars or 5?

Well, as much as it pains me to admit this but emotionally I wasn't connecting very much with either Logan or Tate. I like the the steamy moments in this book, but for me, it kind of lacks the emotional aspect that I always find in Ella's writing.

And while I did find the dialogue fun to read, I also had a hard time distinguishing Tate and Logan's voices. Sometimes, I read a series of banter between them and I had to read it again and see who's talking then, whether it's Tate or Logan. There were really moments where they started to sound alike and that really bugged me.

Final thoughts

This book is the first of three that will follow Logan and Tate as they explore the limits of their relationship. This would have had an even lower rating for me if not for the fact that towards the last part of the book, I did find that emotional spark between the two characters. I can only imagine where Ella will take Logan and Tate's story. And while this one did not shine for me across the board, I still have high hopes for the next book Take to take me to that place where I can actually emotionally connect with each of the characters.

Still, a very decent m-m debut for Ella Frank. Not that I'm not an expert of course but as a reader, that is my opinion. ;)

My Review
Book Blurb
“Asher Pratt had been a drug for me, and I wasn’t sure I wasn’t still addicted.”

Chelsea Whitaker works as a waitress at Tapestries, a trendy Pittsburgh bar. She’s doing her best to avoid Asher Pratt, the Pittsburgh rock legend who shattered her heart years ago.

When he takes a job at Tapestries just to be near her, Chelsea has some decisions to make.

She soon discovers that some things never change. It’s all she can do to keep a tight hold on her heart as Asher takes her for another wild ride.

As she struggles to gain some perspective on their relationship, she learns that he’s never needed her more. She must put the past aside for the sake of the future.

To classify Rock'n Tapestries as NA is too limiting in my opinion. Honestly, when I first got into this book, I thought I pretty much have an idea what's going to happen. You get bad boy rock star who hurt the one girl he can't live without, they break up and somehow find themselves thrown together by fate and then HEA.
Well, that didn't quite happen in this book. Rest assured there is still HEA but you might need to set aside what you think the HEA might be and focus on the journey. This book is quite a journey.

Chelsea was a sympathetic character. She's funny but at times, her thinking frustrated me a bit. But what's great about her character was that she always listens to those around her.  And when thrown a curve ball, she always comes out stronger and smarter.

Asher's character is straight out of every woman's fantasy of what a rock star should be. He's handsome, (of course), a bit of a manwhore, sensitive and hiding a huge secret. I can definitely understand Chelsea's misgivings about this guy. After all, he did break her heart in the worst way possible. Yup, he did one of those things that makes you want to throw your Kindle against the wall. It was that bad.

Chelsea and Asher's second journey together wasn't any easier. This time, Chelsea was determined to guard her heart and Asher was determined to surrender his. And just when you thought you know how everything is going to end, the twist happened. A twist, by the way, that readers will either hate or love. As for me, it made sense in the grand scheme of things.  Of course, I would have preferred my own ending but I actually liked the ending on this one.

 Author Bio:
Though I write contemporary romance under the name Shari Copell, my real name is Sherry Jesberger.  I write a historical fantasy/paranormal romance series under the name S.L. Jesberger.
I am an eleventh generation native of Pennsylvania.  My husband Gordon and I raised three lovely daughters, one of whom designs my book covers. Another daughter drew the map in the front cover of my historical fantasy series.

I’ve always had stories swirling through my head. Crazy stuff, totally whack situations. I was a voracious reader as a child, choosing to escape into the world of books. I wrote stories when I was a teen, but quit as I grew up. (Keep in mind, there were no computers then. Writing a book or story consisted of a brand-new notebook and a ballpoint pen.) I found some of these early stories as I cleaned out my grandmother’s house after she passed. Unfortunately, I threw them away.

I started writing again in 2012 after my husband lost his job. Aislin of Arianrhod was published in October of that year. I immediately began to work on the second book in the series, Winter’s Child. Sometime in the middle of writing Winter’s Child, I had the inexplicable urge to swear like sailor, use modern vernacular, and write steamy sex scenes. I was amused and tried to push it aside. The language in a historical fantasy is obviously much different from a contemporary romance, so I had to behave myself.

I finally just thought, fuck it. I’ll do it.  It was during that time that I started to write “Micah’s Island.” I simply needed to purge the wild story that had taken over my brain by then. It was so much fun to write.  What would happen if you met a man who had never seen a grown woman before?

I chose the pen name Shari Copell because Micah’s Island was so very different from the Ă€lainnshire series. Copella was my grandmother’s maiden name—I just dropped the A.

For the most part, people seemed to like Micah, though he was a man of few words.  I got some nice (and not so nice) emails about it, mostly from people wanting a better ending. I promptly wrote them one.
I wasn’t sure I would ever write another contemporary romance until Rock’n Tapestries dropped into my head, nearly complete from beginning to end (though I did run some things past Tara Chevrestt, who edits for me. Her suggestions were invaluable.)  You just have to indulge your muse when that happens, as it doesn’t happen often.

Though the names and situations have been changed to protect the not-so-innocent, some of the things in Rock’n Tapestries were things that actually happened to me.  My husband was wearing a bass guitar the first time I ever laid eyes on him. As Chelsea says of Tage, “ I think I might’ve had to scoop my jaw off the floor.”  He’s the skinny dude in the gray tank top and orange guitar on the far right in this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1lXGyaHNWRI

I hope you’ve enjoyed Rock’n Tapestries. I’m currently having a blast working on a book about Nicks Sorenson, Asher’s daughter. I love this girl! It should be out sometime in 2014.
In the meantime, rock on!
