Release Day: October 24, 2013
Jack Falcon is a new man. Three years after he left his life behind in London, Jack finally feels settled. He’s surrounded with everything that is important to him; a great relationship with his brother, Alex, a bar he is about to re-open, and most importantly, he has control of his life and his dreams. He knows he can’t undo the wrongs of his past, but he sure as hell can determine his future. He has worked hard to move forward and nothing is going to undo that.
Until he meets Rose.
Rose Wilson has never felt normal. Since she was a child, Rose has felt nothing but the overwhelming desire to end her life and she has no idea why. We live to die, so what’s the point in living? Rose has pushed the limits in the past, and pushed people away. She can’t figure out why Jack and Alex are so insistent on helping her. Twelve years of therapy has failed to help her, so why should they be any different?
Jack sees just how beautiful and important Rose is, but convincing her of that means putting his heart on the line, something he isn’t sure he can do. He can’t deny his feeling for Rose, but that doesn’t mean he has to act on them. And Jack isn’t the only one developing feelings for Rose.
Before Rose, Jack vowed he would never let himself fall in love again.
Before Rose, he had control.
But sometimes, it’s losing control that makes you really see what’s really important in your life.
Beautiful Rose is the first book in the series Beautiful Rose Series by Missy Johnson. It tells the story about two troubled souls that found each other in the midst of the chaos in their lives.
In Seduce, we get to know Jack Falcon. After losing his first love, Jack went to America to heal. After three years, he's starting to rebuild his life but his heart isn't quite ready to move on yet.
Rose Wilson found herself in rock bottom after attempting to take away her life too many times. Her parents have turned their backs on her and she is essentially left alone but not quite defeated. With the help of Jack's brother Alex, Rose found herself a job as a waitress in Jack's bar.
When the two met, their attraction to each other is undeniable. But Jack is still unable to move on from his past hurts and Rose doesn't think she's the one that Jack needs.
What I love about this story are the two characters themselves. It's very rare for me to root for, especially a female character in an NA novel. I can probably count in one hand the times that a heroine didn't get on my last nerve. Rose is one of those relatable and likable heroine that I just love to root for. She's strong and very honest with herself. She didn't whine or became pushy. She was vulnerable without being weak which I really loved.
Jack, of course, is just one heck of hero. I loved how he changed yet at the same time, he never lost that charming wickedness that I so loved during Seduced. I was really convinced that he has changed. His grief and fear of loving again and somehow being unfaithful to Belle's memory was heartbreaking. I loved how he finally realized that Rose was all that he needed at that point and somehow he has to convince her that his feelings are for real.
Overall, this was an enjoyable read for me. My only gripe was that it felt like Jack and Rose didn't get as much screen together as I would have liked. Don't get me wrong, they're hot together but I wish they had spend more time together, you know. Most of the time, Rose was actually spending more time with Alex rather than with Jack. And Jack, it seemed like was still hung-up on Belle most of the time. But other than that, their journey to HEA is a believable one.
